SOLIDARITY SUNDAYS is an inclusive, action-oriented, virtual + real life activist group. Our focus is a series of monthly house parties dedicated to empowering feminist, progressive political action. We have political discussions, write letters, make phone calls, send emails, & amplify the actions of existing organizations fighting for justice, equity, & peace.

On the 2nd Sunday of each month, we gather in private homes to take ACTION on immediate issues that matter. We make phone calls & write letters to elected representatives; bring in guest speakers; organize, educate, & empower on nationwide & hyper-local issues. Attendees get contact info & sample scripts to make the process of contacting elected officials easy.

In February, our plan is to stand up for racial justice. We will talk about the Trump agenda against civil rights, discussing ways we can support racial justice and Black Lives Matter actions in NYC. As we are only 6 days into the Trump administration and there is a 2 page list of actions he and his administration have taken that concern us deeply, we will be determining specific actions closer to the event. . We recommend joining the national Solidarity Sundays FB group for daily actions and the larger national conversation.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/SolidaritySundays/) There is discussion of creating a NYC specific group for posting local actions, events, and in-depth discussion about our local political leadership. Stay tuned. In the meantime, check back here for updates.

As always, please bring:
-Cell phone and/or computer
-Envelopes, Postcards & Stationary (we have amazing Shirley Chisolm stamps ready for action!)

There will be food & drink. A light dinner will be available to help accomodate those coming straight from work and other day events. Bring snack or drinks to share.

***Kids welcome; we have not yet arranged for official childcare but hope to for Sundays in the future. For now, we will be sharing 1 giant space with kiddos & adults. The space is a quirky loft with cats, so children will have to be watched. But we have a giant chest of toys so it should be all good fun!

CORE BELIEFS
In our virtual & real-world spaces, we work toward racial/ gender/ social/environmental/ economic justice. We believe that the following are real, urgent, and not up for debate: Racism & White Supremacy; White Privilege; Misogyny; Homophobia/Transphobia; Ableism; Islamophobia. We commit to resisting all of these.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
The goal is for the monthly meetings to be responsive to immediate needs/crises, but we also want to plan ahead. The national organizers have set up general themes for the next 6 months, along w/ suggestions for extra things chapters can do, but there is room for speakers, actions, and all kinds of other stuff.

{January 8 – Resist Trump’s Cabinet}

ABOUT

We are Blunderbuss Magazine, a web magazine of arts, culture, and politics, an ordnance of fire and improvisation. What ties together these essays, stories, poems, photographs, comics, and other bits of aesthetic shrapnel is a common attitude of visceral humanism. We aim for earnest noise. We want to splash in the mud of lived experience, to battle for a radical empathy, and to provide a megaphone to howling assertions of human subjectivity.
