In solidarity, long-term and new tenants are coming together to RESIST ongoing harassment and landlord abuse. Please join us for our event on February 27 outside our home at 80 New York Avenue, Brooklyn! Our VOICES will be heard through testimonies, picketing and song/chants.
>>A brief HISTORY:
Gold Management bought our then rent-stabilized building in 2015. Soon after, several apartments with minor renovations were rented out at market-rate and old tenants were harassed until they left. The long-term tenants who refused buyouts are now enduring their second winter without heat, and new tenants are being illegally overcharged over 3x the normal rent-stabilized rate. All tenants have also been subject to dangerous living conditions, including illegal homemade gas lines!
In response, neighbors have formed the 80 New York Avenue Tenants Association! With support from the Crown Heights Tenant Union and MFY Legal Services, we have filed a lawsuit to fight the abuses from our landlords.
>>Our demands:
-Heat and hot water for ALL residents! Management must reinstall the boiler responsible for central heat and hot water for all apartments.
-FAIR rent! All renovated apartments must immediately be returned to rent stabilized status.
-An END to harassment! All tenants deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and to LIVE in a safe, warm, pest-free home.
