The goal of direct action is not media coverage, but media coverage is often necessary to achieve our goals. And PR for activism differs from other types of PR.

The Queer Nation PR & Media Workshop will:
1. Empower activists to speak /through/ the media—rather than /to/ the media—to tell the stories they want to tell.
2. Enable activists to devise media strategies that further their goals and demands.

The workshop covers:
• How to plan, message, and brand events that attract media
• How to write and distribute a press release
• How to pitch a story
• How to handle an interview
• How to cultivate media contacts and develop/contribute to an organic press list
• How to deal with hostile media
• How to reach beyond the mainstream media to speak to all communities
• When /not/ to talk to the media

Previous experience with PR is not necessary. All are welcome, but sign-up is appreciated. RSVP at info@queernationny.org.

ABOUT

We are Blunderbuss Magazine, a web magazine of arts, culture, and politics, an ordnance of fire and improvisation. What ties together these essays, stories, poems, photographs, comics, and other bits of aesthetic shrapnel is a common attitude of visceral humanism. We aim for earnest noise. We want to splash in the mud of lived experience, to battle for a radical empathy, and to provide a megaphone to howling assertions of human subjectivity.
