Resolving Host I
who will you be
I just want a hint—
an advertisement for a mountain
that says you too could be
the opposite of where you are—
that doom in your head
and the smell of money
and days buried in sunshine
what if I were distance and I let it
what if I could set a map
hillside of wild herbs and breath
a place to imagine a way out
from the pulp of time’s expanse
when that was you
when that was me
in the midst of our powerless
a name
there and then not
reclaimed by our clamor
Resolving Host II
filled with the buzz of news
another day and another
I spend all day
looking for
which one—
o yes o how
weird it is
to be alive
skin like
I eat convenience
my rotten tooth
child of the firmament
who sits in my house with me
I curse my bread
the need to cash
my check to catch
the train back
I’ll fill my home with sun
scavenge through the present
look for jewelry in the tomb
for a moment I once was
existed and
part of the strand
to see the human city
past its rushing
beneath my feet
beneath the wrong weather
to offer dispatches of the maze
refracted days and wages
the streets where I sell an echo
to appear in the pattern
as a tree reveals itself
to be a story of time and light
to crawl through the ecosystem
until I feel ancient
