The dog-hero shows real skill here: he is GUIDING that skateboard. The celebration at the end is so touching—the furry bastard really did it. You sense that the dog senses the scale of his accomplishment.
I wish more tasks in my life had such a definitive win scenario (100% of legs traversed!)—but maybe that’s exactly why so many people love, like, rock climbing.
Other people’s entertainment often seems bizarre. I’d probably Iike rock climbing, but the barriers to entry seem high. With spectator events like NASCAR, I lack the context necessary for enjoyment. I had always assumed the same to be true for professional wrestling, but this gif changes everything. He’s wearing the mask under the mask!! I want to meet the person who wrote that bit. Unexpected playfulness is a joy—like the moment you find out that That Coworker has a legitimate sense of humor. And since wrestling is theater with chair-whaling, so I shouldn’t be so shocked that I might like it.
Humans have weird ideas of “play.” Which feels important. I think we should’ve put a diagram of Twister (or, frankly, Twister) on the Voyager spacecraft. That, or a dog on a skateboard.
